Who Are We Looking For?

As a leader in the European consulting and IT services market, our ideal candidates should have a blend of excellent technical skills balanced with the ability to work well in a team and in direct contact with our customers. The technical content of your degree course is important to us but equally important will be your proven experience in collaboration and the inter-personal skills that you have developed both in university and in your wider life.

Qualifications And Experience

Applicants should have, or be expecting to attain, a 2:1 or above in: Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Operational Research, Business Intelligence, Actuarial Science, Risk, Economics, Business Studies, Business Analysis, Project Management or Geography.

Applicants who have also gained some work experience in either a relevant placement or post-graduate role will be of particular interest to us.

Location Of Roles

The Graduate roles will be based in one of our offices in Birmingham, Chester, Edinburgh, London or Sunderland. During the Programme, and in your ongoing role in Sopra following the Graduate Programme, you will widen your skills and experience by working on other projects which may be based from another Sopra office or at a client site. Therefore you need to be flexible, mobile and willing to travel within the UK. In some cases, there may also be opportunities to work with clients and colleagues in other countries in Europe and further afield.

Adanze Nzeribe - Junior Business Analyst

Adanze joined Sopra in the September 2012 Graduate Intake, she has since been promoted to a Junior Business Analyst

What attracted you to Sopra?

I was attracted to Sopra because of the company’s vision and the different business areas Sopra specializes in. I wanted to work for a company that would give me the opportunity to get involved with different projects and utilize my skills in various areas of the business. Sopra also invests in employees and I see myself getting the learning and the freedom I need to achieve my professional goals.

What excites you about your role?

My current role is very challenging. Working as an analyst means I need to constantly interact with the business, gathering requirements and producing specifications which then go on to be developed. There are targets that need to be achieved every day and timelines need to be met. This helps me to focus on my work and produce the best every time very exciting!

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves responding to client queries either on the phone or via email, meeting clients to gather/define business requirements and sometimes carrying out testing on different systems (depending on the project I’m working on).

What sort of projects have you worked on?

I’ve been working as part of a team to develop a pensions system for a client. This work has involved defining the requirements for the system and working with developers to ensure the system works to specification.

How does Sopra help you progress & develop?

There are various training opportunities available within Sopra to progress my career; the broad range of clients that Sopra work with provides me the opportunity to gain experience in various sectors, thereby developing and enhancing my skills. I have also been introduced to senior analysts within the business who are available for support or if I have any questions on my day-to-day job.

Favourite memory/best experience of your time at Sopra?

There are so many good experiences I have had working for Sopra. These include when the first project I was working on was successfully implemented, I was proud to be part of the team that worked together towards the success of the project. The graduate induction week was also very memorable (we got to be film stars for the day)!

How do you describe Sopra as a place to work to your friends?

I would describe Sopra as a great place to work; the people are friendly. There is also a lot of support for graduates just starting out in their career and there are lots of opportunities for self-development.

How would you describe the Sopra Graduate Induction programme?

I think the Sopra graduate induction programme is a really good way to gain an overall insight into the company and the various clients that Sopra work for. There are some very insightful sessions on the various types of services that Sopra provides the client and the different career paths available to graduates. It is also a very good opportunity to meet the senior people in the business and to develop friendships.

Do you have any recommendation for graduates looking for employment?

There are lots of graduates out there so make sure your resume/application stands out by researching the company you are applying for and take extra effort to understand what will be required of you so that you are one step ahead of the competition.

Don’t under-estimate experiences you’ve had working in groups at University put it all in your CV. If you want to work for a company that will provide you with lots of opportunities whilst helping you to fully utilise your potential, then Sopra is the place to work.

Starting your career as a Graduate Consultant with Sopra will involve an intense period of both technical and soft skills training. All our graduates will have a technology specific certification goal to work towards and the training provided will guide you towards achieving this. In addition to the initial training, as one of our graduates you will also benefit from the support and guidance of experienced colleagues and a wealth of resources to support you in your studies.

1. What are the graduate roles that Sopra recruits for?

Sopra recruits graduates into the following areas;

2. What are your minimum academic requirements? If I don’t meet them, can I still apply?

To join us, you must have obtained, or are predicted to obtain, a 2.1 or above (or equivalent) in a relevant degree. More information about relevant degrees can be found here.

3. What does a career as a Graduate Consultant with Sopra mean for me?

Starting your career as a Graduate Consultant with Sopra will involve an intense period of both technical and soft skills training. Once the initial training period is complete you will shadow a Senior Sopra colleague on a project where you will have the opportunity to apply the technical theory you have acquired. Graduates will undertake a variety of roles on different projects.

4. When will I be promoted?

The first opportunity for graduates to be reviewed for promotion to the next level is after 1 year.

5. How frequently do graduates receive salary reviews?

Graduates have their first salary review after 6 months and the second after 12 months which ties in with the review for promotion.

6. Is there a good social side to life at Sopra?

Graduates have the opportunity to build strong bonds with their intake group as they spend a lot of time with one another in the initial training period.

7. How do I apply and what is the recruitment process?

You need to submit your CV and register your details on our careers portal. The Graduate Recruitment Team will review all CVs, and suitable applicants are invited to complete an online ‘Aptitude Test’. Successful candidates are then invited to attend a Sopra Assessment Day. Assessment Days are held in both London and Edinburgh and provide an excellent opportunity to meet Sopra’s Line Mangers, Consultants and Sopra graduates.

8. If I’m not successful this time, can I apply again?

If you are unsuccessful in your application you will be able to re-apply for the following intake year, however you will need to wait 6 months from the date of your original application before doing so.

9. If I wasn’t successful in the application process, can I get feedback on my application?

10. Can I still apply for a graduate position if I graduated a few years ago?

Yes. We recruit graduates with some work experience as well as people who have taken gap years or postgraduate courses. Alternatively you may wish to apply for one of our current vacancies.

11. Do you have a closing date for applications?

Our recruitment process is on-going and we recruit graduates all year round for the scheduled in-takes. We do look to fill our vacancies as quickly as possible so we encourage you to apply sooner rather than later.

12. Can I defer my entry?

If you are offered a role and you wish to defer your entry you will need to discuss this with the graduate recruitment team. This may be possible but will depend on confirmed graduate requirements at that time for the following year.

13. What support network is in place for graduates?

To help you settle in when you join us you will be assigned a ‘buddy’. Your buddy will help you become familiar with the company and will always be happy to answer any questions you may have (no matter how small). You will also be allocated a line manager who will assist you with establishing your professional development plan. Each region will also have a regional graduate co-ordinator who oversees all graduates and buddies and is on hand to provide support and input around various graduate activities and initiatives.

14. Where in the UK do you recruit graduates?

We recruit graduates into our Birmingham, Chester, Edinburgh, London, Manchester and Sunderland offices. The more flexible you are in terms of location the easier it will be for you to be considered for the area you wish to work in.

15. When do graduates start?

We have set in-take dates for graduates, typically in April, July and October of each year. These may vary slightly year on year but our advert should specify the intake intervals. If you are unsure of when these are please ask a member of our graduate recruitment team:

16. If I am made an offer and I accept, what happens next?

You will be issued with the formal offer. We also host ‘Keeping In Touch Events’ which are typically held approximately 2 months before the graduate in-take start date. This involves a short session in a Sopra office and lunch in a nearby restaurant. This is a great opportunity to meet some of your future colleagues and other graduates who will be starting with you in your in-take, so there are a few more familiar faces on your first day.

17. Do you offer a relocation package when I join?

A relocation package may be offered to graduates as part of the joining package. Details will be discussed on a case-by-case basis at the point of offer.

18. Is a work permit required?

All applicants must have on-going eligibility to work in the UK.

19. Does Sopra have a graduate induction programme?

All graduates attend a three day induction programme in either Edinburgh or London. The induction programme provides an opportunity for graduates to acquire a thorough understanding of the business and meet key members of the management team, fellow graduates and colleagues.

20. Do you offer internships?
